Bowie Fest this weekend
The 2010 Jim Bowie Festival kicks off Friday and continues through Saturday in Vidalia featuring a barbecue cooking contest, beauty pageant, baking contest and entertainment.
A reenactment of the famous Jim Bowie Sandbar Duel is also on tap.
"We really need to pull in the entire community for the festival," says Jaimie Burley, Executive Director of the Vidalia Chamber of Commerce. "I believe that successful communities are the ones that work together."
Activities kick off on Friday with the Bowie BBQ Contest. Sign-in is slated for 11 a.m., judging from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and winners announced at 9 p.m.
