Story Archives: Ridley rises to the occasion

Ridley rises to the occasion
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
With ice packs on his right knee and the left wrist Saturday night in Tiger Stadium, you would expect a pained look on the face of LSU junior running back Stevan Ridley.

But the smile on his face while sitting on the locker room floor was a stark contrast to the body pains he was experiencing.

And no wonder. Ridley had just scored the winning touchdown with no time remaining in LSU's dramatic and wild 16-14 win over Tennessee.

"I was a little banged up and had a sore thigh and tweaked ankle, but we had just been in a battle," Ridley said. "The main thing is we came out with the win."

Thanks in large part to Ridley.

LSU, which interchanged quarterbacks throughout the game, went with pass-oriented backup Jarrett Lee for most of the game's final drive. Lee converted a third-and-13 pass to wide receiver Terrence Toliver for 14 yards to the Tennessee 34. After a delay penalty with 1:22 to play, Lee's fourth-and-14 pass from the 38 was caught by Toliver for 21 yards to the Tennessee 17.
