Jindal says state progressing despite disasters

Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said he and Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland used to make several trips down to the state capital looking to talk with whoever sat in the governor's chair at that time.

"We don't have to do that anymore," Maxwell joked. "We just wait until he comes here."

Jindal made his fourth appearance in the parish since becoming governor in 2008, holding true to a promise he made during several campaign stops to come back and visit.

"I think that's an important part of being the governor," Jindal said after speaking to a large crowd at the Bryant O. Hammett Vidalia Conference and Convention Center Thursday. "I love meeting with the people and spending time with the officials to find out about important issues and investment opportunities for the area."
