Police Jury 2011 budget 'bleak'

Severance tax receipts -- the Concordia Parish Police Jury's major source of income for its general fund -- have declined several hundred thousand dollars over the past months and will continue to drop into 2011.

Randy Temple, finance committee chairman, says severance tax income for 2011 will amount to only an estimated $50,000.

He told jurors at their regular meeting Monday night that "the budget for next year looks very bleak."

Because of continued reductions, Temple said the Jury is experiencing a "$1 million negative impact on our reserves, because we've had to make up for the shortcomings."
