Ferriday native in national competition
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday native Maj. Serelda (Baker) Herbin, 34, is competing this week in the Army's Operation Rising Star national competition.

Herbin requests that Concordia residents go online and support her in the competition.

Herbin qualified for the nationals after winning the Fort Hood contest on Sept. 23. Assigned to the III Corps, Herbin performed Beyonce's song, "Listen," garnering her an ovation and the winner's title.

She is now one of 12 national finalists competing in Fort Belvoir, Va., in the 2010 Operation Rising Star Live Finals. The winner will record a three-song CD and win an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles.

All four shows will be aired live on the Pentagon Channel and via streaming video through the Web. The Pentagon Channel will also air the shows in Korea and Germany.

Visit www.oprisingstar.com for show times, viewing instructions for computer, TV air times, voting policies, and details about VIP tickets.

Videos of the Herbin's and other winning performances are available for viewing online at www.ArmyMWR.com.

Voting will be for two hours after each performance is aired. Shows will be aired Nov. 14, 16, 18 and 20 at 7 p.m. central.

Although there is a two-hour block of time after the airing to vote, the show is aired three times because of the three times zones. Herbin said that means there are three opportunities to vote.
