Clayton awarded drainage grant

The Town of Clayton has been awarded $432,088 for drainage improvements as part of hurricane recovery money, according to Mayor Rydell Turner.

He said the money would be used to clean out a key drainage canal in town.

"That's a big plus for us," said Turner. "We have a canal that goes behind Town Hall that goes to the floodgates. There's a lot of overgrown trees we need to get out of there. Joe Parker with the Police Jury helped clean that out before and we want to keep it clean because you never know when bad weather comes and this will prevent flooding. We want to maintain it and keep it clear."

Louisiana's Office of Community Development-Disaster Recovery Unit announced $30 million in hurricane recovery awards to 55 municipalities in parishes affected by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
