Police Jury appoints drainage committee The Concordia Parish Police Jury established a new parishwide drainage committee during its regular meeting Monday night.
Jury President Melvin Ferrington said he hopes the new board will hold its first meeting in December. He said total membership for the board has not been established and that additional members may be added.
The Jury named six members Monday night, including Ferrington as chairman. Other members include Lee Staggs of Vidalia, Lewis Whigginton of Ferriday, Jay DePrato of Lake St. John, Wendall Walker of Monterey and Bill Beasley of Frogmore.
Jurors Joe Parker and Willie Dunbar said they also wanted to serve on the board.
Ferrington said the towns of Ridgecrest and Clayton have yet to name a member.
"We're looking for members that are willing to work," said Ferrington. "We had members on the last board a few years ago that didn't attend meetings. I think we are starting with a good group for this new board."
Drainage was a topic of discussion at the Jury's meeting Monday, specifically a drainage study conducted on behalf of the Town of Vidalia for its new municipal complex and for the Recreational District No. 3 sports complex.
