Ferrday mayor's veto on bingo overridden by aldermen

The Ferriday Board of Aldermen voted to reconsider electronic video bingo at its meeting Tuesday night following Mayor Glen McGlothin's veto of council action approving bingo in November.

In November, Elijah "Stepper" Banks, who offered the motion, Gail Pryor and Gloria Lloyd voted in support of electronic video bingo, Somer Lance voted against it, while Johnnie Brown abstained following a public hearing.

Tuesday night, needing two-thirds vote to reconsider the veto, Banks, Pryor, Lloyd and Brown voted for the motion, while Lance voted against it.

The board also discussed amending the ordinance at its next meeting to target how revenue from electronic bingo will be used.

"That's the way government works," McGlothin said.
