More than 400 children received toys or gift cards and more than 200 bags of food were distributed on Saturday at the conclusion of the 2010 Concordia Christmas Charity Fund Drive.

Renee Pitts of the Ferriday Rotary Club said 435 children between the ages of 1 and 12 received a toy or gift card and that 211 bags of food were distributed.

She said each food bag contained flour, meal, sugar, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, green peas, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, rice, gravy mix, cake mix, marshmallows and a small ham.

Pitts said a total of 211 applications accounted for 817 people who received food and toys. All of the money donated is used for the toys and food.

The volunteers who bagged the groceries and sorted the toys on Friday and Saturday, said Pitts, consisted of high school students, River Correctional Center trustees, GFWC Community Service Club members, Rotary Club members, and individuals from Vidalia and Ferriday.
