Harvest yields for rice in 2010 were the highest in five years in Concordia Parish, according to statistics released by the LSU AgCenter.

Cotton, grain sorghum and soybean yields were the highest in three years, while corn yields were higher than last year and wheat yields the lowest in five years, statistics show.

Rice yields averaged 68 cwt. per acre in 2010 in the parish, according to stats, upping the five-year average to 66.65 cwt. per acre. Yields for the preceding four years were only slightly lower.

Grain sorghum yielded 47.6 cwt. per acre this year, the five-year average totaling 50.17 cwt. per acre. The lowest yield in the past five years came during 2008 when the average was 43.68.

Cotton yields were the highest in three years at 890 pounds per acre, up from 500 pounds in 2008 and 875 last year. Yields totaled 1000 pounds per acre in 2006 and 2007. The five-year average is 853 pounds per acre.
