Story Archives: Drainage committee to meet in January

Drainage committee to meet in January
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The newly-appointed parishwide drainage committee will hold its first meeting in January, according to Concordia Parish Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington.

Ferrington will chair the committee, which includes eight members, including Lee Staggs of Vidalia, Lewis Whiggington of Ferriday, Jay DePrato of Lake St. John, Wendell Walker of Monterey, Bill Beasley of Frogmore, Mitzi Bolyer of Ridgecrest and police juror Joe Parker of Clayton.

"The first meeting in January will be an organizational meeting," said Ferrington. "We're going to discuss everyone's ideas and see how the committee should begin its work."

Ferrington said he wants the committee to look at ways to improve drainage in the northern end of the parish.

"We want to look at a gravity flow structure at Clayton that would drain water directly into the Tensas rather than sending it all southward through Cocodrie Bayou," said Ferrington.
