A Winnsboro man was arrested on Friday for allegedly burning his home down on New Year's Day in an attempt to fraudulently collect insurance money.

David C. Brent, 31, 476 Curtis Traxler Road, was taken into custody by Louisiana State Police officers, and charged with arson with attempt to defraud.

Law enforcement officials said that Brent was arrested because of evidence uncovered from an investigation into the fire.

Chip Stevens, an investigator with the State Fire Marshall's Office, would not say what was found, but that the evidence indicated that Brent set fire to his home intentionally.
