Despite a plea of caution from Town Attorney Anna Ferguson, the Ferriday Board of Aldermen voted to pay $129,000 in legal services for the late Sammy Davis Jr., a former Ferriday mayor who was indicted in 1990 on three counts of malfeasance in office and one count of injuring public records.

Alderwoman Gloria Lloyd made the motion to pay the fees in four equal payments of $32,250 annually over a four-year period commencing on August 1, 2011, with Elijah "Stepper" Banks seconding the motion. Johnnie Brown and Gail Pryor voted for the motion, while Somer Lance was the lone dissenter.
