Three candidates have qualified for chief of police in Vidalia during the three-day qualifying period.

The special election will be held April 2.

Arthur Lewis, who was named police chief following the resignation of former chief Tapper Hendricks, qualified for the post this morning. Also qualifying were Sam King and Stuart Joseph Boykin, according to the Clerk of Court's office.

The special election is being held to fill the unexpired term of Hendricks.

Qualifying for state and parish offices is slated for Sept. 6-8. The primary election is set for Oct. 22 and the general election for Nov. 19, Webber said.

Voters will elect a governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, state treasurer, commissioner of agriculture, commissioner of insurance, board of elementary and secondary education, state senator, state representative, sheriff, clerk of court, assessor, coroner and police jury.
