Courthouse roof work approved A Kenner contractor was the low bidder at $259,171 for construction of a new roof and other improvements on the new courthouse in Vidalia.
The Concordia Parish Police Jury awarded the contact to Rycars of Kenner during its regular meeting Monday night. The work will be paid from a $550,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant awarded in December 2009.
Jury President Melvin Ferrington said that once the architect and project manager are paid and after change orders are made that the entire roofing project will cost around $300,000.
"We will have about $250,000 left over and that's certainly good news," Ferrington said. "After the work is completed we'll have to check with FEMA to see how we can use the remaining funds."
