Rotary speaker crossed Berlin Wall for freedom Entrepreneur Jon Fels asked the 17 Tensas Academy juniors in attendance at Ferriday Rotary Club Thursday how many would be able to vote next year.
"Do you understand the opportunity and responsibility you will have?" Fels asked. "It's an exciting time."
Fels certainly appreciates his voting rights, as well as all of his rights as an American citizen. The German native escaped over the Berlin Wall in 1961 after six other attempts to flee communist East Germany.
"They had just started building it and were near completion," Fels said. "I would go to a place that was created known as no man's land. There were land mines. I was hiding in ruins left over from World War II.
