Property owner cited in petition The Vidalia Town Council was presented with a petition Tuesday night asking that the town address issues with the property of Marvin C. Ellerbe at 305 North Magnolia Street.
The petition was presented by Claudia Malone and George Whitehead, on behalf of their mother, Kathleen Whitehead, whose property neighbors that of Ellerbe.
Ellerbe was not at Tuesday's meeting.
Malone said the issue began approximately five years prior with construction that was never completed. She stated the property has become "a detriment and a blight" to the surrounding properties.
City Attorney Jack McLemore explained that the town has an ongoing issue with Ellerbe stating that the town has issued two building permits for the construction of a storage area and/or workshop. He also has constructed apartments on the residentially zoned property that was not approved by the city.
