Story Archives: McGlothin won't seek re-election

McGlothin won't seek re-election
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin told the Ferriday Rotary Club on Thursday that he will not seek re-election next year.

McGlothin served as mayor from 1988-1996 and again in 2000-2004. His present term, which began in 2008, ends in 2011.

"Don't feel sorry for me," he said. "It's been a pleasure. But I haven't been able to serve a term without some kind of unnecessary controversy. I love Ferriday too much for there to be all this squabbling that goes along with it."

McGlothin said he has had five recall petitions against him, but the outspoken mayor has never been forced to leave office.

"Now I don't mind a good fight, if it's a necessary fight," he said. "But it's another thing when it's just a difference of opinion. There are just a few people who don't want me as mayor."
