Lewis elected Vidalia police chief
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Arthur K. Lewis was elected police chief in Vidalia on Saturday with 78 percent of the vote.

Lewis received 962 votes.

"I felt confident in my faith that it was my destiny to win," said Lewis, "but I was extremely surprised by the numbers. It makes me feel good to see that the people of Vidalia put their trust in me."

Lewis served as assistant chief before ascending to the police chief's post following the resignation of former chief Tapper Hendricks last year. Saturday's election was held to fill Hendrick's unexpired term.

Lewis carried all four precincts in town to defeat two opponents -- Stuart Boykin, who received 233 votes (18.96%) and Sam King's 34 votes (2.77%).
