Story Archives: Board may rebid recreation complex work in Vidalia

Board may rebid recreation complex work in Vidalia
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Recreation Board District 3 Chairman Marc Archer said the board is looking at the possibility of rebidding construction work of the new recreational complex in Vidalia after bids came in higher than anticipated last week.

"The bids came in too high," Archer said. "There's a lot of factors contributing to that, such as rising oil costs and the cost of asphalt. When we started the project we made a wish list and we were told that would be in the money. Right now we're just looking at working on some reductions. This project is going to happen. This is just a bump in the road."

Womack and Sons Construction Group of Harrisonburg offered the lowest bid at $4.75 million. Wil-Mar Construction of Vidalia bid $4,954,000.

Bids coming in over $5 million were Don. M. Barron of Farmerville ($5,240,000), Lincoln Builders of Baton Rouge ($5,188,000), Clark Construction of McComb ($5,450,000), Dirtworks of Vicksburg ($5,080,000) and Westerchill Construction Company of Alexandria ($5,476,000).
