Schools awaiting test results

School officials are hopeful that parish students get good scores following state testing last week for selected grades.

Director of Academics Dr. Paul Nelson told the School Board during its regular meeting Thursday night that "all schools reported that the kids worked hard and took the tests seriously. Principals have been positive about the work and the efforts the kids have put into it."

He compared it a football coach who trains and prepares his team for game day.

"At this point all we can do is sit back and wait (for results)," he said.

He said the scores will be released in May.

Nelson said the "big difference between this year and last year is that we don't test 9th graders for the GEE (Graduate Exit Exam) anymore. We now use EOC (End of Course) instead of iLEAP. This is course specific like Algebra 1, Geometry and English 2."

He said "freshmen will never take the GEE. They will have to take the EOC which is done online."

EOC testing is slated for May 2-6.
