Officials discuss Lake Concordia
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
State wildlife and environmental quality officials said Tuesday night they will research ways to improve fishing and water quality on Lake Concordia.

Ricky Moses of Pineville, a biologist with the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Department's (LWFD) Inland Fish Division, and John Posey of Monroe, with the Department of Environmental Quality, met with Lake Concordia property owners and local fishermen at a meeting hosted by the Police Jury.

Local sports fishermen contend that the lake's low level killed this year's spawn and have asked that studies be done to seek ways to improve fishing on the lake, which they maintain has been declining for more than a decade.

Moses said that a lack of vegetation in the lake could be hampering fishing in a number of ways, although he said data shows that the fish population has been improving during the past few years.

Since 2008, "the fish population has been on the rise," said Moses. "The genetics are holding well with the Florida bass."

He said about 47,000 young Florida bass were placed in the lake last year by the LWFD.
