Jury to set public hearing on redistricting
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Concordia Parish Police Jury will move forward with a redistricting plan during its regular meeting next week.

A public hearing on the matter will be set at that time, according to Jury President Melvin Ferrington.

Parish Planner Oliver Schulz presented a plan to jurors during a special meeting Monday night which he said placed every district within the numerical and minority guidelines of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

All jurors at Monday night's meeting were prepared to move ahead with the plan, but held off while juror Willie Dunbar considers the proposal offered by Schulz.

Most districts remain basically as they are, said Schulz. He said there were minor changes in Districts 5A and 4A involving Rabb and Levens, while Dunbar's District 2 may add Vidalia Manor and Vidalia Meadows apartments and possibly Riverside.

Schulz said the District 2's makeup would be 66% minority, well above the 55% minority required by the Justice Department.
