National and state USDA officials will be in Vidalia Thursday to meet with farmers and residents affected by Mississippi River flood waters.

A meeting has been scheduled for 11 a.m. at the entrance area at the riverfront on 112 Front Street.

Scheduled to attend are Dallas Tonsager, Under Secretary USDA Rural Development; Michael Scuse, Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services; Clarence W. Hawkins, State Director, USDA Rural Development, Louisiana; Willie F. Cooper, State Director, USDA Farmer Service Agency, Louisiana; Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain and state and local officials.

The officials will also fly over Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to view flood and tornado impacted areas.

The Farm Service Agency and the Rural Development Agency deliver commodity, credit, conservation, disaster and emergency assistance as well as crop insurance programs designed to improve the stability and strength of the domestic agriculture economy, according to USDA.
