House bill would cut veteran services, offices

Concordia Parish Veterans Service Officer C.C. Kimball urged area residents this week to ask their legislators to oppose cuts in the House Bill 1 which includes a reduction in veterans services statewide.

The appropriations measure contains language that calls for the closure of veteran service offices in Catahoula and Tensas parishes.

HB-1 provides "for the ordinary operating expenses of state government for Fiscal Year 2011-2012."

Kimball, who also serves as veterans service officer for Catahoula and Tensas, said "while the bill in and of itself must be passed there are changes that need to be made prior to the budget going into effect. We are asking that the citizens contact their representatives to ask that these cuts not be made at the sacrifice of our veterans who have already given so much."
