Ferriday pool eyed for repairs
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said the town swimming pool has a crack with a leak under it.

"All the pipes are under the pool," McGlothin said. "We've hit a major snag with it."

McGlothin and town workers surveyed the pool Friday with inmates cleaning up debris around it.

The water at the bottom of the pool at the drain was pumped out, revealing the crack.

"We're going to have some other people look at it and see what our options are," McGlothin said. "The problem is a public swimming pool can be a big liability. I would love to see us try and get a spray park, which is the way a lot of towns are going. And the kids love them."

Recreation District No. 1 donated the 55-year-old pool to the Town of Ferriday in July of 2008.

The pool was inspected in 2007 by Bruce M. Carney of Warwick, N.Y. who said the pool should remain closed because it posed significant safety, operational and liability concerns.

Alderman Johnnie Brown said the town needs the pool to give youth something to do.
