Story Archives: Town chooses new bingo operator

Town chooses new bingo operator

WhiteCo. Gaming has been named the operator of video bingo in Ferriday providing the company makes significant progress over the next 90 days.

That decision came during a tension-filled meeting of the Ferriday Town Council Tuesday night.

After two votes were cast for White Co. Gaming and two for Big Bucks Bingo, which was originally granted the license, Mayor Glen McGlothin broke the tie.

"You know how I feel about it, if it was up to me there would be no bingo, but you as a board vetoed that," McGlothin said. "I vote for WhiteCo, but I'm asking the board to come back in 90 days and if there is not anything being done we will disband it."

The board approved bingo last November, but McGlothin vetoed it. The board overruled the veto in December.

Big Bucks Bingo was chosen to bring bingo to Ferriday in January.

But the apparent lack of progress led to a debate Tuesday night among Rusty Durham of Big Bucks Bingo and Ned White of WhiteCo. Gaming in an attempt to secure the license.

White said Big Bucks Bingo had not made any progress since receiving approval.

"We're very interested in coming," he said. "We have a bonafide lease for a property at the corner of Louisiana Avenue and First Street."

White said he is considering a building next to Big John's across from KFC.
