Story Archives: Hoffpauir swinging hot bat

Hoffpauir swinging hot bat
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Jarrett Hoffpauir went 2-for-4 Monday in the Tucson Padres' 15-9 loss to Reno, extending his hitting streak to 16 games, while improving his average to .356 for the Tucson Padres.

Hoffpauir added a home run Tuesday to extend that hitting streak to 17.

"Right now things are going well," Hoffpauir said. "I'm comfortable at the plate and getting hits to fall for me. I'm going to ride the wave for as long as I can."

Hoffpauir started out the season with the San Diego Padres, but a strained quad muscle in his leg put him on injured reserve.

Hoffpauir went through rehab and has been with the Padres' triple-A team for the past four weeks.

Hoffpauir has been playing second and third base for Tucson.

According to the Tucson Web site, in Sunday's loss to Las Vegas, "the Padres turned three double plays in a game for the first time Sunday, two of which started with acrobatic plays by second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir."

Hoffpauir has competed in 26 games, has four doubles, a triple and home run. He has scored 20 runs and collected 11 runs batted in.

Hoffpauir said it has been frustrating having to start over.

"It's just something I don't have much control over," he said. "I just have to go out and keep trying to put up good numbers to get back in the big leagues. It was frustrating because things seemed to be going well and then all of a sudden I wasn't getting any answers and things seemed to change. Right now I'm not just playing for the Padres, I'm playing for everybody else, as well. My body feels great, I'm at 100 percent and I go out and play hard every game like I am accustomed to doing."
