Womack low bidder for recreation complex Recreation Board No. 3 is expected to accept a bid from Womack and Sons Construction Group of Harrisonburg to build the recreation complex near Wal-Mart in Vidalia..
Womack was the low bidder for the work at $3.45 million. Lincoln Builders of Baton Rouge bid $3.895 million and Cecil D. Gassiott, LLC bid $3.956 million.
Wil-Mar Construction of Vidalia bid $3.997 million. Westerchill Construction of Alexandria and Dirtworks Inc., of Vicksburg bid more than $4 million, while Dozer, LLC of Natchez bid more than $5 million
The bids were opened Thursday night.
Original bids in April came in too high, forcing those connected with the complex to find ways to cut costs.
"We are very pleased," said Recreation Board No. 3 Chairman Marc Archer. "We're excited because this is all getting ready to come to a head and things can get rolling."
City of Vidalia Recreation Director Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said he is excited about the bid and expects work to begin on the complex in early July.
"We are going to start to see our dream come to fruition," Hoffpauir said. "It's been a long, drawn-out process, but it's going to be incredible in the end."
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said the recreation complex, along with the new municipal complex, which is slated for opening in December or January, will enhance the area. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
