Story Archives: Maxwell to retire after present term

Maxwell to retire after present term
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Sheriff Randy Maxwell announced late this afternoon that he would not seek another term as sheriff of Concordia Parish.

Maxwell told his employees at a staff meeting at the correctional facility at 4:30 p.m. that he will retire at the end of his present term which ends in June 2012.

He said he was not "physically able" to campaign door-to-door.

"My heart and mind wants to run, but my body can't do it," he said.

He said he also wants to spend more time with his family.

The sheriff's office will have no debt and will have money in the bank when he retires next year, he said.

He urged his employees to "do you job and do it well and stay out of the political arena. You're the best."

The next sheriff "would be a fool not to keep you," he said.
