Ferriday's budget totals $3.2 million

The Town of Ferriday adopted a $3.2 million budget for the new fiscal year at a special meeting Thursday morning.

Expenditures are expected to total $3,099,382. Revenue will amount to an estimated $3,289,232.

"It's about like last year," Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said of the budget. "We have had no increase in sales taxes. As a matter of fact we may have had a decrease because I can't keep everybody from driving to Walmart (in Vidalia)."

The proposed budget shows anticipated sales tax revenue of $1.1 million, the same as last year. The budget also includes expected revenue of $802,500 in state grants and $172,732 in federal grants.

The budget was adopted unanimously by aldermen Johnnie Brown, Somer Lance and Gail Pryor. Elijah "Stepper" Banks and Gloria Lloyd were absent.

"We're not looking at spending as much next year because we have all the equipment we need," McGlothin said. "The only increase we see will be in health insurance, which it trying to go up again. We'll try and move things around where it won't cost our employees an arm and a leg."
