Vidalia adopts $35 million budget The Vidalia Town Council adopted a $35 million budget for fiscal year 2012 at a special meeting Thursday in Vidalia.
The new budget includes five categories, including general fund, special revenue, debt service, capital projects and enterprise funds.
Total revenue from all funds is projected at $34,874,650, while expenditures will total an estimated $35,122,778, The beginning fund balance is $4,938,366 with an ending fund balance estimated to be $4,690,238.
The board also passed a resolution to declare an emergency to repair the convention center without having to go through a bid process to do it.
"This will give us the ability to declare an emergency for repairs without waiting for bids," Copeland said. "This way we will get the money rather quickly."
The board also discussed plans to regulate the amount of time political signs can be displayed prior to and after elections.
Copeland said an appropriate time frame for signs to be displayed is 60 days before elections and 10 days after elections.
The aldermen will vote July 12, and if the motion passes, regulations will go into affect 10 days following the vote.
Appointments for the new fiscal year include aldermen Jon Betts over the utility office, Ricky Knapp over the fire department, Tron McCoy over the street and sanitation department, Vernon Stevens over the police department and Maureen Saunders over the city hall office.
