Story Archives: Delta Museum hours reduced

Delta Museum hours reduced
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Delta Music Museum has reduced its operation from six days a week to three due to overall cuts of $862,000 in the Louisiana Secretary of State museum budget.

The facility's new hours will be Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to Delta Music Museum Director Judith Bingham.

"I've had to lay off my part-time help," said Bingham. "It's just a sad time. We've worked really hard to push this museum forward the last 10 years, but due to cuts we may be backing up now. Who knows what the future holds?"

Bingham said Mickey Gilley will still appear August 28 at the Bryant Hammett Vidalia Conference and Convention Center, while the Delta Music Festival will still be held on September 10.

Country Music's "Louisiana Delta Music Opry", with host Gene King Band and featuring Sam Bailey, Shelby Dean, Judy Long, Hallee Yarborough, Lynn Landry and other performers from throughout Louisiana, will continue to be held the fourth Saturday of each month, she said.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler said making the cuts was one of the most difficult things he has had to do.
