Burn ban remains in effect parishwide

A parishwide burn ban remains in effect although the statewide burn ban will be lifted later this week.

State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning and Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain have announced that the "Cease and Desist on Outdoor Burning" order that was issued on June 1 will be rescinded. Effective Thursday, July 21, 8 a.m., the statewide ban on burning will be lifted, subject to any parish or municipal regulations, Browning announced.

Concordia Parish Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said that after consultation with fire department officials that the Concordia burn ban will remain in effect.

"We haven't had enough significant rainfall to lift the burn ban," said Ferrington. "Until then, we're keeping the ban in place."

Concordia Fire District No. 2 Fire Chief Nolan Cothren said rainfall has been too scattered to lift the ban at this time.

"Some areas of the parish have received some rain but other places haven't," said Cothren. "Things are still pretty dry."
