School Board ups pay
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Concordia Parish School Board voted 6-3 during its regular meeting Thursday night to up its pay to $650 a month effective immediately.

Board members were making $350 a month, a stipend that's been in place for more than three decades.

Supporting the raise were Fred Butcher, Mary Campbell, Charles Minor, Daryl Price, Martha Rabb and Raymond Riley. Voting against were Diane Baker, Cheryl Probst and board president Gary Parnham.

The board had voted on a pay raise last February for $625 monthly. While a majority of board members favored the raise in February, they didn't have the two-thirds majority required.

Board members in Louisiana can pay themselves up to $800 monthly.

In other matters, the board approved invoices for the month of June totaling $7,326,806, which included the July and August payroll for nine-month employees.

Additionally, on a unanimous vote, the board hired Arlene Davis as assistant principal at Ferriday Lower. She was one of three applicants for the post.
