Jury endorses school name change By KELLIE GENTRY The Concordia Parish Police Jury endorsed the proposed name change of Ferriday's technical college during its regular meeting Monday night.
The Central Louisiana Technical College Shelby Jackson Campus wants to change its name to Central Louisiana Technical College Ferriday Campus.
Campus Dean Mignonne Ater said she has been soliciting support from local offices, such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, in order to document the need and support of the name change before presenting the proposal to the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
Jury members agreed the change would help better identify the location of the campus.
Documents of support are not required, but provide more credibility, she said.
"So far I have had no negative responses," Ater said.
Shelby M. Jackson will be preserved and prominently displayed as the name of the newly-renovated main building on campus, she said.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this and other renovations were held back in March. According to Ater, construction is on schedule with a projected completion date of February 15, 2012.
"Over the next few weeks, as construction of the new wing and the campus main entrance progresses, the community will begin to get a glimpse of the architectural beauty of the building," she said. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
