A parishwide burn ban has been lifted, Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington announced this week.

"We've gotten some pretty good rain across the parish during the last few days and we feel like it's safe to lift the burn ban at this time," Ferrington said. "I urge the public to be extremely careful when burning and make sure they have a water supply and hose nearby if needed."

State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning and Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain announced last week that the "Cease and Desist on Outdoor Burning" order issued on June 1 due to drought conditions was lifted effective Thursday, July 21.

Most areas throughout the parish and area received rain during the past days, but amounts varied.
