State Police news release on Concordia Parish shooting -- Williams arrested (Troop E News Release) According to the Louisiana State Police, at approximately 5:15 pm Wednesday afternoon, Jimmy Williams surrendered to authorities at the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office in reference to an outstanding warrant issued Wednesday.
His arrest stemmed from a shooting that occurred around 1:30 am at 227 Concordia Park Drive, just outside the city limits of Vidalia, LA, near US Hwy 84. A deputy was dispatched to his residence after Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from Elizabeth Bright (B/F 49 yrs) and she was screaming. Once the deputy arrived, he attempted to enter the residence to assist, but was immediately fired upon by Bright. The deputy also observed that a man, identified as Jimmy Williams (B/M 90 yrs), was armed with what appeared to be a shotgun. Because of Bright's actions, a deputy fired his service weapon at Bright, striking her in the chest. After these events transpired, the deputy and a Vidalia Police Department Officer retreated to await backup and the arrival of a Special Response Team (SRT).
Once the scene was secured the SRT instructed Bright to discard her weapon. She did as instructed which allowed for the SRT to enter the residence and remove her so that medical attention could be obtained. She was transported to Riverland Medical Center and later transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. She is listed in critical condition at this time. Charges are pending against Bright.
The area was cordoned off throughout the night and into the morning since the exact location of Williams was not known. By midmorning, entry was made into the residence, but Williams was not there. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. His family was on the scene and is being cooperative in the investigation.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office responded to the scene at the request of the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate the incident. An investigation is ongoing at this time. Besides the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office and the Vidalia Police Department, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and the Alexandria Police Department were/are integral in the investigation. |
