Story Archives: Shady's should buy a sign

Shady's should buy a sign
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
So what the are the chances of Shady's becoming an official sponsor of LSU sports?

Somehow I think the hangout has gotten more than enough publicity in recent days thanks to certain Tigers. Maybe a sign behind the goal post will remind other current Tiger players that certain decisions have severe consequences.

The bookies had to be going crazy following this one. I know Les Miles certainly was, although you have to figure he had a good idea of how this was going to play out.

First of all I hope everything works out for Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns. Yes, they used bad judgment. And, yes there are Tiger fans out there cheering the end result while bashing Jefferson for putting himself in this position.

Some of those fans are the same ones who are tanked up outside Tiger Stadium on game day yelling obscenities at opposing fans.

Jarrett Lee is now your starting quarterback. In March I questioned why Miles was not giving Zach Mettenberger more reps during spring drills. This guy is now one play away from being your quarterback against the No. 3 team in the nation.

I sincerely hope Lee comes out and has a great game. His story is well documented. And he has handled himself with class throughout a career with more downs than ups.

At the first hint of loss of confidence, Miles has to pull the plug. We've seen it on many occasions against subpar teams where Lee makes bad decisions and keeps a game close thtat should have been one of those games where Tiger Stadiium is in the rear view mirror at halftime.

But even with 92,000 fans booing (and I'm beginning to think that's how many people were in Shady's on August 18), and the media questioning his leadership, Lee stood tall, answering questions after horrible games and taking ownership of his mistakes.

He did not cower in the locker room or sneak out the back door and head for a smaller school like most athletes would have done.

You can bet the coaches will keep it simple for Lee, hoping he can build some confidence early, and the team can feed off his leadership.

There is a huge difference between a quarterback his freshman year and a senior quarterback.

Lee has been under the gun on many occasions, and more times than not, that gun has backfired.

Miles seems to be hesitant to throw any praise toward Mettenberger. But something tells me Mettenberger is a better game quarterback than practice quarterback. That's just the opposite of Lee.

Miles got burned by Jefferson. What's the old saying, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

Keep that bullpen warmed up, Les. Your starting pitcher has had some issues in the past. Don't wait too long to call on the new guy. He may be your only hope at salvaging a season that at one time had so much promise.
