Story Archives: Boil water notice may be lifted by week's end

Boil water notice may be lifted by week's end

Ferriday may be taken off a boil water notice by the end of the week following improvements made to the town's filter system at the water plant.

Mike McGuffee of JCP Management, which is performing the repair work, looked over the new clarifying filter at the plant Tuesday and smiled at the murky, churning waters below him.

"Those are beads that are cleaning the water," McGuffee said.

He said the brown water from Old River, the town's water source for the past two decades, is being filtered and thus prevented from entering Ferriday's water system.

He then ran his hand against the bottom of a second filter, which is not working, and came up with a handful of filthy beads.

"This is how the other one used to be," he said. "As soon as we can get this old one fixed, we're in business. We have good water now. We need to elevate the water tank in town and then Thursday we are going to send off samples to Shreveport to be tested and hopefully by the end of the week we will be off the boil water notice."

The Town of Ferriday has been under a boil water notice since August 18.
