School budget totals $46.7 million The Concordia Parish School Board adopted a $46.7 million balanced budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 Thursday night, which includes a projected excess in revenue of almost $1.5 million.
Expenses are projected at $45,233.617.
The Concordia school system is one of the few in the state which isn't cutting back on employees while at the same time moving forward with capital outlay projects.
"I congratulate you," Business Manager Tom O'Neal told board members during their regular meeting. "We've completed another successful year and look forward to another. Our budget is balanced, our finances are sound."
He said he was pleased that the board was able to accomplish its goals of school improvements "without going back to the people to ask for additional money to complete our capital outlay programs."
O'Neal said schools throughout the parish have seen improvements.
"This is ongoing," he said.
Additionally, the new budget includes the payment of "13th checks" through sales taxes. Fulltime employees received $600 in August, while in January certified employees will be paid $1,000 and non-certified $800.
Supplements paid through ad valorem taxes will include a $500 check in December and a $500 check in May to all fulltime employees. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
