Ferriday upends Block No sweep this year.
One year after defeating Vidalia and Block in the same season for the first time since 1980, the Trojans kept if from being two in a row with a 22-16 win over Block in Jonesville Friday.
"We played decent," said Ferriday coach Richard Oliver. "We still have to work on a lot more stuff."
Ferriday forced the Bears into nine turnovers, including an interception in the end zone by Trojan defensive back Richard Jefferson.
"I think the football was greased," said Block coach Benny Vault. "We just couldn't hold on to it. Ferriday played real hard. I can't fault our effort."
"Like all coaches, we teach our guys to put their hands on the ball and if they get a chance, to strip it," Oliver said.
Oliver said his offense was able to move the ball a little better than they did in the 19-0 loss to Natchez to open the season.
"Richard was able to hit some passes and Jarvis had some good runs," Oliver said. "But we are still making a lot of mistakes. One more block or the proper spacing while lining up would have made the difference in a few plays."
Ferriday travels to Vidalia for its annual Concordia Parish rivalry game against the Vikings Friday at 7 p.m.
Block hosts Jena Friday at 7 p.m. Jena has posted wins over Pickering and Grant this season under former Huntington and Ferriday High head coach Chad Harkins.
"Chad has them playing with a lot of confidence," Vault said. "We'll both be running the double wing, so it may be the fastest game in history." |
