Ferriday receives grant for plaza
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin is hoping Rockabilly Plaza on First Street in Ferriday will be rocking and rolling even more by Christmas.

The town has received a $124,000 HUD Streetscape grant to go toward the Rockabilly project, which includes a flea market and music pavilion. McGlothin said the plaza will also include benches, tables and chairs and new street lights along with concrete speakers at the bottom of the poles to play music.

The open air pavilion has been used this summer for concerts.

He said the former depot is undergoing a massive facelift and will house a music hall which will be used for flea markets, arts shows, reunions and musical events.

McGlothin said the grant will net about $101,000 for construction and purchases by the time engineers and contractors are paid.

"We're happy to get the grant and are seeking more," McGlothin said. "The more they see you doing with the money, the more likely you are to receive more."
