Registration for the Oct. 22 election closed last week with 13,595 parish voters on the rolls.

Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger said early voting is scheduled for Oct. 8-15 with the exception of Sunday, Oct. 9. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including the noon hour.

Due to construction, the location of one election day polling place has been changed. Voters who cast ballots at the Central Louisiana Technical College Shelby Jackson campus will vote instead at the old Stozier's U-Pak building in Ferriday, according to the Concordia Parish Police Jury.

Three candidates are seeking the sheriff's post: Robert "Rock" Davis and Kenneth Hedrick, both of Ferriday, and Charles "Junior" Tarver of Wildsville. All three have law enforcement backgrounds. Sheriff Randy Maxwell is not seeking re-election.

Two candidates are running for assessor, which is being vacated by assessor Monelle Moseley, who is retiring. In the race are Jerry Clark, a longtime employee in the assessor's office, and Ryan Paul, a 28-year-old parish businessman.

District 21 State Representative Andy Anders of Clayton is opposed by Justin Conner of Ferriday.

Police Jury elections in Concordia will not be held until the spring of 2012, according Parish Planner Oliver Schulz. He said the redistricting plan for the parish was not submitted in time for the U.S. Department of Justice to review and approve.

Incumbents unopposed during the recent qualifying period include Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber, District 32 Sen. Neil Riser of Columbia and Dist. 34 Sen. Francis Thompson of Delhi.

Daryle Price was unopposed for coroner. He'll replace Coroner Dr. Sarah Lee who chose not to seek re-election.
