Assessor tops ballot in Catahoula Incumbents for three parishwide offices face opposition in Catahoula Parish on election day, Oct. 22, while only four of nine police jurors are being challenged.
Four candidates are running for assessor after longtime assessor Carmon Walker resigned from office last summer.
Candidates include Sam Wilkerson of Jonesville, a 25-year employee in the assessor's office, and Barry Boothe, Matt Taylor and Greg Terry. All four are seeking the new assessor term.
Voters will also choose a candidate to fill Walker's unexpired term that runs through 2012. Three candidates are seeking to complete Walker's term: Wilkerson, Boothe and Taylor.
In other parishwide elections, Sheriff James Glen Kelly, Clerk of Court Janet Payne and Coroner Raymond Rouse each face opposition.
Registrar of Voter Sue Manning said 7,311 residents are eligible to vote in the election. She said early votes totaled 706 through Saturday, Oct. 15, including 591 in person and 115 by mail.
