Story Archives: Pilot plant work underway

Pilot plant work underway
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Pre-treatment work is continuing at the Town of Ferriday pilot plant where the new water plant will be built.

By definition, a pilot plant is a small scale model of the proposed treatment facility and will determine if the proposed treatment scheme will perform adequately under design criteria and how the proposed treatment scheme works under abnormal criteria such as low flow, high flow, weather conditions, etc..

The pilot study will also determine the need, if any, for polymers or other chemicals and the dosage of those chemicals.

Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said there is no time limit on construction and implementation of the new plant.

"I just hope they keep testing it until it's right," McGlothin said. "We don't need the same kind of thing we had at the old plant."

According to Keith Capdepon of Bryant Hammett & Associates, there are two phases to the proposed water treatment for the Town of Ferriday.
