Cooksey endorses Guice in BESE race

Former Congressman Dr. John Cooksey says he will vote for Keith Guice in his bid to secure a second term as the 5th District representative on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The election is Saturday, Oct. 22.

Guice, a Democrat, is a career educator. He will face Ruston businessman Jay Guillot in Saturday's election. Guillot is a Republican, who has been endorsed by Gov. Bobby Jindal and many business organizations.

Cooksey, who served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives representing the 5th District of Louisiana, is a Republican.
