Bethley faces life plus 150 years in murder Sentencing for convicted murderer Bryant Lakeith Bethley, 36, is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 2, according to District Attorney Brad Burget.
Burget said Bethley faces life plus 150 years.
Bethley was found guilty of second degree murder by a 12-person jury on Friday for the April 3, 2010, shooting death of Reginald Green, 25, of Ferriday. Green was killed while sitting inside his Chevy Blazer at 806 Alabama Street in Ferriday around 10:30 p.m. on the day of the Delta Music Festival.
Green suffered gunshot wounds in the torso, head and mouth. The SUV was hit 13 times.
Bethley was also convicted of three counts of attempted second degree murder involving three passengers inside the Blazer -- Myecha Leonard, Kenneth Leonard and Kevin Carter.
Another man on trial in the case, Daniel Durans Butler, 30, of Ferriday, entered a plea of guilty to one count of obstruction of justice Thursday night. Burget said charges of second degree murder and three counts of attempted second degree murder were dismissed against Butler.
Burget said a number of witnesses placed Butler at the scene, but that ballistics tests showed only one weapon was fired -- a semi-automatic Bushmaster AR-15 .223 caliber assault rifle that Bethley had purchased in Ferriday just hours before the shooting. Burget said Bethley was the lone shooter.
Judge Kathy Johnson sentenced Butler to 10 years, five suspended, and ordered five years active supervised probation on his release. He was given credit for time served. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
