Early voting starts Saturday for Nov. 19 election

Early voting begins Saturday for the Nov. 19th election when Concordia voters will cast ballots on one issue -- a constitutional amendment involving taxes on real estate.

According to the Registrar of Voters office, 13,605 voters are eligible to cast ballots in the election.

The early voting period is scheduled for Nov. 5-12, with the exception of Sunday, Nov. 6, and Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

Hours for early voting at the registrar's office will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voters will cast ballots on Amendment 1, which concerns taxes and fees on the sale or transfer of real estate.

According to the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR), "a vote for would prohibit the levy of new taxes or fees upon the sale or transfer of immovable property after November 30, 2011."

PAR says a vote "against would leave the Constitution silent on the issue, meaning that the Legislature could pass statutes to create new real estate transfer taxes in the future."
