Graham resigns as Ridgecrest mayor

Kevin Graham resigned as Ridgecrest's mayor last week, according to town clerk Dana DeLaughter.

With more than three years remaining on his term, which expires on December 13, 2014, an election will have to be called, DeLaughter said.

Elected to the mayor's post by one vote last fall, Graham did not give a reason for resigning, according to the town clerk. The Sentinel was unable to reach Graham for comment.

DeLaughter said Graham's resignation letter was notarized.

She added that alderman Dwayne Sikes, who is mayor pro tem, is serving as acting mayor.

The Secretary of State's had not received paperwork concerning Graham's resignation as of Tuesday, according to Sailor Jackson Jr., Director of Communications.

He said that an election to filled Graham's unexpired term would likely be early next year.
